Administrative Information

Arrangement

The collection is arranged into four series. The first series is made up of subscription publications, i.e., bulletins, magazines, newsletters, and newspapers. In some cases, there may be only one or a few issues; in other cases, there are substantial runs of a particular publication.

The second series is comprised of materials that the Brotherses received from various organizations and people. Materials in this series include pamphlets, brochures, mailers, ads, and clippings. In some cases, materials come from organizations or people who also published materials in the first series.

The third series is made of books, and the fourth series, titled "General," includes materials on a particular subject that were collected by the Brotherses (e.g., the "Back to Africa" movement), as well as materials related to their business and correspondence to and from them. Also included in the final series are materials for which there is no identifiable publisher or author (e.g., cartoons, essays).
