Historical Note
Gene Mason was a doctor, writer, and mountain climber. He climbed the summits of four of the world's continents: Mt. McKinley (North America), Aconcagua (South America), Kilimanjaro (Africa) and Mt. Elbrus (Europe). He was also a skier, car racer, skin diver, motorcyclist, and hunter. He wrote a book about his mountain climbing adventures entitled "Minus Three".
Content Description
The Gene Mason collection contains Mason's journal from his climb of Mount Logan in the Yukon Territory. It also contains copies of some of his magazine articles on sports medicine, mountain climbing, Africa, and the American frontier. There are some copies of press interviews and there is an original manuscript of his book, "Minus Three", which was about mountain climbing. Published copies of his book "Save Your Licence" are also included.
