Walla Walla Valley Railroad Company Records, 1864-1984

The Walla Walla Valley Railroad company began circa 1890 in Walla Walla, Washington. It expanded in Walla Walla, and in 1907 it opened a 14 mile line between Walla Walla and Milton-Freewater, Oregon. This allowed for the transportation of large quantities of fruit, wheat, and dairy products to and from Walla Walla. In 1910 the company changed its name to the Walla Walla Valley Railroad company, and became part of the Pacific Power and Light Company. During the 1920s and 1930s many of the company's lines were shut down, and in 1985 the last remaining line, between Walla Walla and Milton-Freewater, was abandoned by its owner at the time, Burlington Northern.
