USU International Students Association Photographs Addendum, 1981-1992

The Utah State University International Student Association (formerly the International Student Council, or ISC) is a student organization made up of over 1,000 international students from over 85 countries. Formally, the ISC's purpose is to represent international students before the USU administration in all matters concerning co-curricular activities for international students. It also promotes awareness of cultural diversity and international issues. The group's activities are as wide-ranging as ski and museum trips to cultural events, festivals, and celebrations. The ISC also hosts meetings with professionals from various backgrounds to meetings with presenters from different cultures of the world.

A significant figure in the International Students program between the 1980s and 2000 was Afton B. Tew, who worked as the program coordinator for international students and, later, served as director. During her time, she started many programs and activities that are still in existence, including the International Banquet, International Wives Club and International Family Night.

The group encourages friendship and cultural awareness on USU's campus. Over the years, the ISC has hosted many sub-groups, such as the Armenian Students Association, Chinese Students and Scholars Association, Dominican Student Association, Indian Student Association, Saudi Student Association, Korean Student Association, Taiwanese Student Association, and the Thai Student Association.
