Historical Note

John Straley (1894-1966) was an editor and economist. Straley edited The Bawl Street Journal, which was a parody of The Wall Street Journal. The writers of the newspaper satirically imitated The Wall Street Journal’s style and content. Straley also wrote the periodical column “Street Gleanings” for the Investment Dealers’ Digest, starting in 1935.

This collection contains xerox copies of the column “Street Gleanings” by John Straley from the first issue in January of 1935, until 1966. Also included are copies of the newspaper, The Bawl Street Journal from 1931 to 1962.
