Historical Note

Tina Gonzales Garcia was born on May 31, 1924 in Ojo Caliente, New Mexico to Sarita Archuleta and Bernardo Gonzales. She married Frank Garcia, Sr; after the two divorced, she married Joseph Polanco. She worked as a federal investigator. She was involved in the Spanish Speaking Organization for Community Integrity and Opportunity (SOCIO) and worked as a leader in the Hispanic community to advocate for civil rights. She received several recognition awards, including "Hispanic Woman of the Year" in 1989. Tina Gonzales Garcia Polanco died on December 20, 1992. Source: Death: Tina Gonzales Garcia Polanco. The Tina Gonzales Garcia Family photograph collection consists of 1 box containing two photos: a photograph of Ernie Garcia (son), Barbara Moore (friend) and Cesar Chavez (founder of United Farm Workers Association) at the Garcia home in Salt lake City, Utah and a photograph of a Spanish Speaking Organization for Community Integrity and Opportunity (SOCIO) parade float in front of the Salt Palace.
