Historical NoteReturn to Top
William Blaine Murdock, known as Blaine Murdock, was born on July 17, 1902 in Heber, Utah to Lavina Elizabeth Averett and Nelson Murdock. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served a mission to the New England Mission. Murdock attended the University of Utah from 1919 to 1924, where he was one of the founders of the Sigma Nu fraternity and was elected President of Ute Days in 1924. On June 17, 1927, he married Edna Ferrell Wood in Chicago; she died in 1928 giving birth to their son. On December 23, 1932, Murdock married Captola Cherrington in Salt Lake City, Utah; together, they had four children.
Murdock worked for 22 for the Western Electric Company in Chicago and New Jersey. After leaving the job, he moved back to Utah to farm. During this time, he invented a supplemental feed for beef and dairy cattle. Murdock served as President of the Springville Mapleton Poultry Association. Blaine Murdock died on October 12, 1986.
