Biographical Note
Dorothy Wolens Block was born September 25, 1925, in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1946 with a degree in Sociology and was married that same year to Robert Jackson Black of Seattle. A newcomer to the city, Dorothy Block became one of the city's leading volunteer workers. She volunteered in various capacities for the Seattle-King County Council of Camp Fire Girls, Washington State Council for Children and Youth, the Seattle Park Board, League of Women Voters, The March of Dimes, the Seattle Section of the Council of Jewish Women, and other organizations. She had 6 children. Block passed away on January 22, 1961, following a brain tumor operation.
