Historical Note
Vickie Goodwin was the wife of Larry "Sissy" Goodwin, a Vietnam veteran, educator, and cross-dresser in Wyoming. Larry was born in Douglas, Wyoming in July of 1946. He gained national attention for being a Wyoming man who dressed in women's clothing. He took on the name "Sissy" to deflect hate associated with the term. His story was chronicled in the Casper Star Tribune, the Douglas Budget, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times. His story also appeared on NBC Dateline and various podcasts and in other newspapers in Wyoming. Sissy died in March of 2020.
Content Description
This collection contains an oral history interview with Vickie Goodwin conducted by Leslie Waggener, Archivist at the University of Wyoming, American Heritage Center. Goodwin discusses her husband, Larry “Sissy” Goodwin. It also contains biographical information on Sissy and his family.
