Historical Note
Arthur Schweitzer was a professor of economics at the University of Wyoming from 1939-1947. He was born in Germany in 1906 and fled Nazi Germany to Switzerland with his wife in 1937. He then emigrated to the United States by way of Cuba in 1938. From 1947 until he retired in 1976 he was a professor of economics at Indiana University. Schweitzer then became professor emeritus of Western European Studies department until 1978. Schweitzer specialized in the field of comparative economic systems with a focus on the Nazi economic system. He received a Fulbright award in 1960. Schweitzer passed away in 2004.
