Content Description
Papers from radio engineer and Glacier resident Jim (James D.) Ericson (1940-2009). This collection includes papers and images documenting the history and impact of an experimental community radio station established in and broadcasting to Glacier, Washington between 1997 and 2009. The off-the-grid, solar-powered station was known as "Glacier Free Radio" and broadcast initially as an AM station, and later as an FM station at 89.1FM. In addition to containing information about the establishment of the station (and equipment set-up), the collection includes programming and promotional materials, and photographs. The collection contains additional materials documenting Ericson's experiment to measure the velocity of hummingbird's wingbeats.
