Summary
This collection consists of one scrapbook belonging to Cleda May Taylor, who was a student at Missoula County High School from 1929-1933 and the University of Montana from 1933-1937. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, pamphlets, cards, dance tickets, and other high school memorabilia. The contents of the clippings and pamphlets pertain mostly to high school track and theatre performances, with scattered ones about football, basketball, or other school activities.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Cleda May Taylor was born to Emmett Gordon Taylor and Winifred Alice Taylor on November 2, 1916, in Livingston, Montana. Cleda attended Missoula County High School from 1929-1933 and the University of Montana from 1933-1937. She married Harold Laing, becoming Cleda Taylor Laing, in Missoula in 1939. Cleda and her husband both worked at banks in Missoula following their marriage, with Cleda also participating in the Ketcham Memorial Association, a group granting scholarships to students in Missoula. In the 1950s Cleda and Harold moved to Spokane, Washington, where they remained until Cleda died in March of 2006.

The collection consists of one scrapbook primarily containing high school memorabilia from 1929-1933. The scrapbook houses various newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and letters. Almost all newspaper clippings focus on results from various Missoula Country High School sporting events, with the majority being about track and field, and others detailing basketball and football. Most of the pamphlets are about musical and theatre productions, with various others on academic competitions and graduation ceremonies. There is also one photograph of Taylor from her time as a university student as well as some writing certificates from her primary school years.
