Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Digital photographs taken by Cameron Nielsen as part of the Latah County Historic Sites Digital Map Project Fellowship in from 2023-2024.

Historical NoteReturn to Top

In 2023, the Latah Preservation Commission (LPC) approached the University of Idaho Library's Special Collections and Archives department to assist with translating their print map of 90 historic locations in Latah County into a digital collection. The published map does not include any photos of the identified sites, and so the digital collection includes the current map with both contemporary and historic photos of each location. This project was turned into a fellowship opportunity and Cameron Nielsen, a University of Idaho student, was chosen.

Nielsen traveled around Latah County and took contemporary photos of the various publicly available historic sites. Her photographs were added to the digital collection, while copies of the digital files were archived in Special Collections and Archives.

Donors to the Library Dean's Excellence Fund made the project possible. Significant volunteer assistance was also provided by members of the Latah Preservation Commission. The commission is a Certified Local Government that receives funding from Latah County and the National Park Service.
