Biographical Note
Henry Savier Mears was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1884. In 1920, he and Marion L. Chase were married; they later had one child. He died in 1980.

Margaret Savier Clark, nee Mears, was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1895. In 1917, she and Norman Nienstedt Rupp were married; they later had three children. Rupp died in 1942, and she remarried to Wilson Warner Clark in 1949. She died in 1994.

This oral history interview with siblings Henry S. Mears and Margaret S. Clark was conducted by Charles Digregorio at the Oregon Historical Society in Portland, Oregon, on August 3, 1976, as part of the oral history program at the society's research library. A transcript is available.
In this interview, Mears and Clark discuss their family background, and talk about the life and career of their father, Portland businessman and Oregon legislator Samuel Maxwell Mears. Digregorio reads biographies of Samuel M. Mears prepared by the siblings. They talk about their early lives in Portland, including their social lives and recreational activities. They close the interview by talking about their brother, Arthur Maxwell Mears, and his involvement in Portland's shipbuilding industry.
