Historical Note

In 1949, the people of France sent the “Merci Train” to the U. S., in appreciation of the American “Freedom Train,” which carried food to the French during WWII. This trainload of gifts was sent to Wyoming, where the train itself is exhibited in Cheyenne.

Collection contains some of the “Merci” train gifts including chinaware, vases, carvings, bottles, buckles and studs worn by knights, ink stands, crockery, pictures and etchings, tapestries, and magazines.
