Biographical Note

Chester Kingsbury was an activist in the University District of Seattle. He was president of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Methodist Federation for Social Action, a board member of the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington (circa 1954), and a delegate to the Socialist Party convention in 1936. He was also a member of the Church of the People in the University District and the owner of the North Seattle Printing Company. His wife, Elsie Kingsbury, was a member of the Seattle Branch of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.

Kingsbury's political and religious activities, as well as his wife Elsie Kingsbury's interest in pacifism, the cooperative movement, and similar issues, are documented in minutes, newsletters, ephemera, clippings, subject files, writings, and videorecordings, 1915-1994.
