Biographical Note
City manager of Tacoma, Washington.
David Dickson Rowlands was city manager of Tacoma, Washington from July 1956 to November 1969. He served as president, International City Management Association; a member of President Johnson's Task Force on New Towns; Task Force on Model Cities, 1969; participant, Urban Affairs Seminar, Washington, D.C., 1967; chairman, Community Services Advisory Committee; and chairman, Municipal Fire Defense Institute.
Content Description
Correspondence, speeches, reports, and files, relating to Rowlands's service as city manager, Tacoma (1956-1969), his presidency of International City Management Association (formerly International City Managers' Association), and his participation in various national and local professional associations, including President's Task Force on Model Cities, President's Task Force on New Towns, Tacoma Community Services Advisory Committee, and Urban Affairs Seminar, Washington, D.C. (1967). Includes material relating to Seattle Model City Program and memoranda between Tacoma mayor and City Council. Collection also contains a manuscript of Rowlands' autobiography.
