The Book Club of Washington (BCW) offers the Monroe Award each year for "excellence in the Pacific Lutheran University Curriculum in the Publishing and Printing arts and for Accomplishment at the Elliott Press." The award was established in 1988. The award honors Robert D. Monroe, a founder and first president of the Book Club. It reflects Mr. Monroe's strong interest in fine printing and the art of the book. Robert Monroe served as the first Head of the Special Collections Division at the University of Washington Libraries.
Names with no title attributed to them are award winners for which the BCW has no examples of the winner’s work. Some winners or titles were identified from other sources such as the BCW Newsletter, recommendation letters from Megan Benton (formerly at Pacific Lutheran University), or with the assistance of Solveig Robinson.
