Historical Note
Arthur G. Rempel was born in Ukraine in 1910 and immigrated to the United States with his siblings after his parents died in the Russian Revolution. He attended Oberlin in 1934, and then got his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkely in 1938. During that year, he was hired at Whitman to teach biology where he worked up until his retirement in 1976. Arthur was married to Lucile Rempel. He died May 1, 2007.
