Biographical Note
Herbert Thomas and Natalie Thomas Malin are the grandchildren of Peter Thomas.
Content Description
Interview conducted March 22, 2006. Herbert Thomas and Natalie Thomas Malin discuss their grandfather Peter Thomas who was born about 1884 in Kiev, Russia and emigrated to Seattle about 1899. He was a blacksmith by trade and, in 1902, opened the Peter Thomas Company on 1320 Main Street. Peter was active in the Herzl Congregation, serving as president in the 1940s. He founded Herzl Memorial Park in 1908 and was also one of the founders of the Hebrew Free Loan Society. Names mentioned include: Imperial Candy, Henry Ford, Cornucopia Gold, Bob Cummings, Jacob Cohen, Ed Kaye, the Jewish Forward newspaper, and Kenworth Motor Truck Corporation. Also included is an email addendum sent by Natalie with biographical information on her grandfather as well as some newsclippings and a copy of two advertisements from the Peter Thomas Co.
