Historical Note

This committee was established by the President's Office in 1969, with Vice President and Provost Solomon Katz as Chairman and Richard Berner as Secretary and ex-officio member, in order to oversee permanent and temporary public art works in both exterior and major public interior spaces on campus. Berner directed the survey. Steven B. Higgins did the survey work and photography. Administrative correspondence was retained by Katz for the remaining duration of his chairmanship. The name of the committee later changed to the University of Washington Public Art Commission (UWPAC).
