Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Shigeru Osawa was the Business Manager of Minidoka Interlude, a souvenir annual of the Minidoka Relocation Center.

Historical BackgroundReturn to Top

The Minidoka Relocation Center in Idaho was one of ten camps at which Japanese Americans, both citizens and resident aliens, were interned during World War II. Under provisions of President Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066, all persons of Japanese ancestry were moved from the West Coast of the United States and interned in camps. Minidoka housed about 7,000 Japanese Americans, predominantly from Oregon, Washington and Alaska.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The collection is comprised of photographs of the Minidoka Relocation Center internment camp in Idaho, documenting the residents, employment divisions, and activities in the Minidoka Relocation Center. All but the last five photographs were used in the annual of the Minidoka Relocation Center Minidoka Interlude, September, 1942- October, 1943.

It is likely that either artist T. Fujii or photo director R. Ochi of the Minidoka Interlude was the photographer.
