Historical Note
Arnold Maihart Hanson was a research scientist, oceanographer, and meteorologist. He made several field expeditions to the arctic working for the University of Washington's Division of Marine Resources from 1957-1968 and later with the U.S. Office of Naval Research. Much of his research involved arctic sea ice and he participated in the Arctic Ice Dynamics Joint Experiment in 1975-1976.

Collection includes correspondence (1962-1983); diaries (1957,1962); manuscripts (1962-1982); files of notes, reports, data, and printed materials related to his scientific activities (1956-1982); notebooks; photographs and negatives, chiefly related to arctic snow and ice research; maps; measuring instruments and other artifacts; personal memorabilia; and miscellaneous other materials.
