Historical Note
The Gandhi Alliance for Peace was incorporated in 2000 in order to fulfill its mission "To increase public awareness and understanding of Mahatma Gandhi, his unique role in world history, and his commitment to truth, nonviolence, service and justice; To encourage non-violent resolutions of conflicts among individuals, communities, and nations". It was founded by some of the members in an earlier Utah group, Writing to Stop Nuclear Testing. The Alliance advocates for nuclear disarmament, sponsors the annual Gandhi Peace Award and an essay contest, fundraises for land mine removal in Southeast Asia, and provides education in elementary schools about Gandhi and non-violence.
