Historical Note
The Utah Computer Society (UCS), also known as Blue Chips, was started in 1982. It was a non-profit, non-dues-paying organization formed by PC and IBM user groups to promote personal computer (PC) usage and industry in Utah. The Utah Blue Chips was a charter member of the global Association of Personal Computer User Groups. The society offered software instruction, assistance in solving issues with computers, information about the computer industry, education about computer security and scams, and spaces for members to interact. The society published a monthly newsletter, Blue Chips Magazine, for 33 years. This newsletter provided editorial, product reviews, tips and techniques, and news. In addition to this publication, USC/Blue Chips sponsored a regional training conference called Silicon Mountain. Members also worked with senior groups and community centers to teach the use of PCs. The Blue Chips Magazine published its last issue in March 2015.
