Summary
The Department of Family and Community Medicine was organized in 1970. It provided practical experience to medical students through outreach programs often in conjunction with foundations and state agencies. C. Hilmon Castle was the primary organizer and served as the first chairman. This collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, and reports pertaining to the operation of the department and the rural health clinics which it sponsored.

Content Description

This collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, and reports pertaining to the operation of the department and the rural health clinics which it sponsored. These clinics included the Bicknel Clinic, the Northwest Clinic, the Wayne County Clinic, and the Wendover Clinic. Included are records of the Nursing Home Project and the Urban Health Initiative, as well as applications and reports to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Health Underserved Rural Areas.
