Historical Note

William Henry Andrews (1842-1919) served as a Republican representative for the United States House of Representatives for the State of Pennsylvania from 1889 to 1893. Andrews also served as a delegate for New Mexico Territory. Upon leaving Congress, Andrews moved to Sierra County, New Mexico and managed a gold mine. He later re-entered politics in Albuquerque and was reelected to Congress in 1905. One of Andrews’ major accomplishments was his work with earning statehood for New Mexico. Andrews was also associated with the Standard Oil Company of Indiana.

Collection contains correspondence and telegrams; financial records; subject files with political information; miscellaneous material, including handwritten papers, calling cards, and requests for railroad passes; speeches; a scrapbook of newspaper clippings that cover Andrews’ political career and current events between 1878 and 1924; a stock portfolio; miscellaneous newspaper clippings and newspapers; pamphlets and campaign material; and five photographs of people camping.
