Historical NoteReturn to Top
Labor organization of teachers in Seattle public schools, first established in 1927. Known as the Seattle Federation of Teachers (SFT), it was affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). Kenneth Warren served as the president 1968-1971. Virgil Holland served as president 1972-1973. John Dunn served as president 1973-1977.

Defense of Garfield High School Teacher Sally
Pangborn
Don Wallen
(photographer)
Sally Pangborn was a social studies teacher at Garfield High
School who was terminated April 10, 1970. The Seattle Federation of Teachers
helped her mount a defense in a public hearing about her dismissal. Pangborn
filed a lawsuit to overturn her dismissal, which she won in 1973.
