Carleson owned an automobile dealership in Salt Lake City. He was president of the Utah Automobile Dealers Asociation during the 1970s.

Biographical Note
Fredrick A. Carleson (1896-1993) owned a Pontiac-Cadillac dealership in Salt Lake City. He took over the Ford dealership in Salt Lake City in 1934 which then became an Intermountain Area dealer for Pontiac-Cadillac. Carleson was president of the Utah Automobile Dealers Association during the late 1970s. He was married to Lucille Iredale (1897-1992), who wrote and published poetry.

The Fredrick A. Carleson papers (1883-1993) contain correspondence, journals, scrapbooks, certificates, notebooks, publications, pamphlets and brochures, deeds of title, business materials, and property information pertaining to Salt Lake City, Utah. The collection also includes family history materials for the Carleson, Gailey, and Patterson families, all of which are related.
