Historical Note

Charles N. Daniels was an American songwriter and music publisher whose first hit song, "Margery," (1896) was popularized by John Philip Sousa. His best known songs include "You Tell Me Your Dreams, I'll Tell You Mine, " "Moonlight and Roses, " and "She's Funny That Way." Much of Daniels' work was published under the pseudonyms Neil Moret, Lamonte C. Jones, L'Albert, Sidney Carter, Joe Burke, Jules Lemare, Julian Strauss and Charlie Hill.

Collection contains correspondence (1905-1944, 1973); sheet music (1898-1947); manuscripts of unpublished songs; manuscript music and related correspondence for a proposed musical, "Lazy Lover," by Daniels and Jo Trent; photographs; newspaper clippings; a biographical sketch of Daniels written by his son, Neil M. Daniels (1982); and miscellaneous other materials.
