Historical Note

Chester G. "Chet" Whittaker was born in Brighton, MO, in 1907. He attended the University of Idaho and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. In 1930, he moved to Miami, FL, and helped to found the Winn-Dixie Corporation. He married Ruth Violet Bohman in 1933. He participated in various civic and religious organizations in the Jacksonville, FL, area. Chet and Violet Whittaker also made donations toward the construction of the Troy Community Library in Troy, ID. Chet Whittaker passed away in 2002 at his home in Jacksonville.
