Historical Note

Ronald W. Sandefer was a traveler and teacher. He was born in Tennessee in 1941 and received a B.S from the University of Tennessee in 1960 and an M.S. from Murray State University in Kentucky. He taught history in the Paducah, Kentucky, school system from 1962 to 1999. He also traveled extensively abroad and in the United States and kept a daily diary from 1965. He had an uncle, Theodore H. Sandefer, who was a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II.

Content Description

The Ronald W. Sandefer papers contain the daily journals, travel journals, and a volume of recollections written by Ronald W. Sandefer from 1965 to 2018. The travel journals concern Sandefer's travel to the mid-west and western United States, Canada, Europe, and New Zealand. Also in the collection is a WWII P.O.W account from Sandefer's Uncle, Theodore H. Sandefer. Family photographs, a book on his hometown, and a self-narrated photo DVD help to further explain Sandefer's life.
