The firm became known as Murphy-Maclay and Company and operated until the death of John Maclay on January 3, 1896. Grant Maclay opened and operated a small "corner" grocery at the intersection of South Avenue and Reserve Street in Missoula, Montana. He also owned and operated a small motel across the street.
