Historical Note
The Office of the President at Central Washington University originated with the appointment of a Principal for Washington State Normal School by the Board of Trustees in the fall of 1891. The title of Principal was changed to President in 1914 and continues to be used to the present day.
The President's Council was established by President James Brooks soon after his arrival at Central Washington University in the summer of 1961. The council was organized to seek advice from department chairs on the Central Washington State College campus. President Donald Garrity presided over the council from the beginning of his administration in the fall of 1978. The President's Council was also known as the President's Joint Council and the President's Advisory Council.
