Content Description

The Ray Josephs Papers are especially valuable to researchers interested in journalism and public communications. The International Public Relations Company, Ltd. (New York) files and the travel files provide unique primary material about public relations, account servicing procedures, problems, approaches, and solutions. There are extensive files on Japanese trade policies and investment in the United States.

There is business correspondence between Ray Josephs, his editors and publishers, and other business associates regarding his articles and books, lecture tours, Latin American politics, and business ventures. There are also many personal files containing correspondence regarding family, friends, personal residences, and medical treatments. The personal files also contain financial records regarding income, expenses, estate planning, and taxes. There are a few files of newspaper and magazine clippings of articles either written by Ray Josephs or about him.

The Business Council for International Understanding files are of special interest to anyone interested in the relationship between the Department of State and U.S. multinational companies. The BCIU was formed in 1959 at the initiative of President Eisenhower to bridge the interests of the U.S. public and private sectors globally. It is a non-profit business association that provides opportunities for U.S. ambassadors, other senior diplomats, and key administration officials to meet with company executives to discuss international trade problems.

There are also manuscript files which contain correspondence, research material, notes, and drafts of articles.
