Summary
The Gordon and Peg Alcott papers (1938-1996) consist of materials documenting the Alta ski patrol acttivities of Gordon and Peg Alcott. Included are notes, ski patrol manuals, avalanche rescue manuals, clippings concerning ski patrol activities, and a scrapbook of promotional materials about the Alta ski resort (1971-1972). Also included is a brochure from the 1936 Winter Olympics in Germany. Gordon Alcott was an original member of the ski patrol at the Alta Ski Resort. Peg Alcott also served on the Alta ski patrol.

Biographical Note

In 1945, Fred Speyer, general manager of Alta Ski Resort, gathered four men together and asked them to form a "weekend ski patrol" for the Alta Ski Resort. This was the first ski patrol until in the intermountain area. One of these men was Gordon Alcott. Alcott pursued his National Ski Patrol training and was awarded his National Ski Patrol certification on November 5, 1948. By 1972 there were twelve full-time ski patrollers and 26 part time ski patrollers at Alta, including Peg Alcott.

Content Description

The Gordon and Peg Alcott papers (1938, 1940s-1989, and 1996) focuses on the development of the Alta Ski Patrol since 1945. The documents consist of some of Gordon Alcott's personal notes, early text and reference books, his National Ski Patrol certificate, an Alta ski patrolman's parka designation, news clippings, a scrapbook of Alta promotional information from 1971-1972 ski season, a National Ski Patrol Emergency Care Workbook, and a Ski Patrol manual and avalanche rescue material from the 1987-1988 ski season. In addition, the collection holds Ski Patrol certificates and various registration cards regarding Peg Barnes Alcott's Ski Patrol activities. The collection also holds a brochure for the IVth Olympic Winter Games held in 1936 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, as well as general Ski Patrol-related items.
