Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Michael (Mike) Eisenberg was the founding dean of the University of Washington Information School. He aided in transforming the department from only housing the library science graduate program to including an informatics undergraduate major and two graduate programs: Master of Library and Information Science and Master of Science in Information Management. Eisenberg holds the role of dean emeritus and professor where he continues to contribute to information education and research.

Beyond Eisenberg's role at the University of Washington, he was the founding director of the Information Institute of Syracuse and a professor of information studies at Syracuse University. Additionally, in 2008, Eisenberg and colleague Dr. Allison Head started working on Project Information Literacy, which conducts large-scale studies on "information-seeking behaviors, competencies, and challenges faced by early adults as they conduct research in the digital age."
