The materials in this collection contain publications, newspaper clippings, bibliographies, and other various research materials concerning history of Idaho, as well as information on travel and agricultural practices in the western United States. Within this collection there are primarily paper documents with some booklets containing research information.
Historical NoteReturn to Top
Dr. William "Bill" R. Swagerty was a professor of history at Colorado College from 1977-1978, the University of Minnesota from 1981-1982, the University of Idaho from 1982-2001, and the University of the Pacific from 2001-2022. Dr. Swagerty received his undergraduate degree from Colorado College in 1973 in history. He completed his doctorate in 1981 from the University of California-Santa Barbara. His pre-doctoral fellowship was at The Newberry Library in Chicago. In 181, he was the Associate Director of the McNickle Center for the History of the American Indian. At the University of Idaho, he directed graduate programs and served on the faculties of history, environmental science, and American studies. Swagerty retired from the University of the Pacific in 2022 having served as the director of the John Muir Center.
