Historical Note

Ann Winslow was the pen name adopted by Verna Elizabeth Grubbs (1894-1974). While attending the University of California in 1931, she founded the College Poetry Society and served as managing editor of the Society's magazine, "College Verse," from 1931-1941. Winslow taught English at the University of Wyoming from 1936-1960.

Collection contains correspondence (1930-1969) including letters from many prominent poets; poems by Winslow and others; the manuscript of an unpublished book by Winslow on the College Poetry Society and "College Verse"; manuscripts of short stories and reviews by various authors; articles of incorporation and other items related to the College Poetry Society; copies of "College Verse" (1931-1941); and miscellaneous other materials.

The collection was donated by Ms. Ann Winslow circa 1974. A later accretion from an unknown source was received through Rodney Lang, Special Assistant to the University of Wyoming President, in 1996.

The collection was processed in 1974. It was reprocessed and new material added by Andrew Schuster and Lydia Stuver in 2018.
