Summary
Pearl Anderson (1886 - 1964) was a student at the University of Puget Sound in the early twentieth century. She was a alumna of the class of 1908, and was an active member of alumni and reunion events. During the 1907-1908 school year Anderson kept a detailed scrapbook memorializing various student activities. Events held by organizations such as the Philomathean Literary Society and Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) are prominently featured in the scrapbook. The 180 page scrapbook includes photographs, handwritten entries, event programs, invitations, holiday cards, pressed flowers, newspaper clippings, fabric clippings, hair, and one pair of socks.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Pearl Anderson (1886 - 1964) was born in 1886 in Creston, Iowa. In the early twentieth century she relocated to Washington State where she attended the University of Puget Sound, eventually graduating in 1908. As a student, Anderson was an active member of the Philomathean Literary Society and the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). On May 14, 1910 she became engaged to Willard Belknap Anderson, a fellow University of Puget Sound student and Methodist minister. The couple was married on March 21, 1911 in Bellingham, Washington. The Anderson's settled in Seattle, Washington where Pearl Anderson was a school teacher and Latin tutor for many years. In the 1950s Anderson relocated from Washington State to Waldwick, New Jersey to be with her children and grandchildren. She died in 1964 after a brief illness.

This 180 page scrapbook documents the life of Pearl Anderson, a student and alumna of the University of Puget Sound. The bulk of the scrapbook content contains materials from Anderson's time as a student from 1907-1908, but also includes some materials from later in her life. The scrapbook documents events such as orchestra concerts, holiday events, alumni association gatherings, a reunion for the class of 1908, and activities for both the Young Women Christian Association and the Philomathean Literary Society. Materials include photographs, handwritten entries, event programs, invitations, holiday cards, pressed flowers, newspaper clippings, fabric clippings, hair, and one pair of socks.
