The Moscow Silver Mine is near Milford, Utah. Historically the site has been part of the Star Mining District. The site was first discovered in 1865. The Moscow Silver Mine was closed at the time of data entry with no known plans to re-open. Production size when active was considered to be medium. Mine operations consist of underground workings. There is one known shaft. Subsurface depth reaches a maximum of 488 meters (1,600 feet) and extends 7,898 meters (25,912 feet) in length. The ore mined is composed of chrysocolla, smithsonite and galena with waste material consisting primarily of hedenbergite, epidote and wollastonite. The ore body is described as tabular shaped and 9 meters (29 feet) thick. The host rock in this area is quartzite from the Upper Devonian epoch 382.70 to 358.90 million years ago. The Great Basin of the Intermontane Plateaus characterize the geomorphology of the surrounding area.
