Historical Note
Edward Stanley was a journalist and author. He was born in Aurora, Nebraska and began his writing career as a reporter for various newspapers in the Midwest and South. He joined the Associated Press in 1928 as a domestic and foreign correspondent and editor of the Newsphoto and Wirephoto Service in New York. During World War II he was the Deputy Director of the United States Office of War Information (OWI). After the War he worked in magazine publishing and public relations and wrote two historical novels, Thomas Forty and The Rock Cried Out. From 1950-1968, Stanley was the director of NBC's Public-Affairs and Education Department, developing and supervising the production of over 3,000 radio and television programs including Meet the Press and Continental Classroom.
