Historical Note

The Puget Sound Writing Project (PSWP), founded in 1978, was a partner program of the University of Washington offering writing institutes to K-12 English teachers to improve their teaching of writing as well as workshops to individual schools and districts. In 1989, the House of Representatives Committee on Higher Education established the Washington State Writing Project including both the PSWP and "a new smaller program at Washington State University", likely referring to the Central Washington Writing Project (CWWP). The CWWP is presently a local site of the National Writing Project, while the PSWP is not.
