Biographical Note

Mary Frances Sinnott, nee Brosnan, was born in Portland in 1921. In 1945, she and Roger E. Sinnott were married, and they later had four children. She died in 1995.

Content Description

This oral history interview with Mary F. Sinnott was conducted by Jim Strassmaier on April 4, 1985. Sinnott's husband, Roger E. Sinnott, was also present and occasionally contributed to the interview. In addition to the audio recording of the interview, the collection includes three black and white photographs of Mary F. Sinnott and Roger E. Sinnott that were taken at the time of the interview.

In this interview, the Sinnotts discuss the history of the Sinnott and Collins families, and their early lives in Portland, Oregon. Mary F. Sinnott talks about the early death of her mother, about her education, and about her reasons for going to a business college. She speaks about her involvement with the Sisters of the Holy Names and the Catholic Church. She shares her experience house hunting in Portland in the 1940s, talks about her marriage to Roger E. Sinnott, and discusses raising a family in Oregon. She speaks about her Irish heritage, and about her father's career. She and Jim Strassmaier exchange stories about their children.
