Historical Note

The National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs (NFBPWC) began in 1919, on the heels of World War I, with a mission from the government to “coordinate identification of women’s available skills and experience.” The Washington State Business and Professional Women Federation formed in 1921. The Pullman chapter, part of state District 12, was founded in 1923 with many members being employees of the State College of Washington, such as Ivy Lewellen, an early and well-known member.
