Biographical Note

Dale Stradling was born on April 5, 1930 in Yakima, Washington to Howard and Lucy Stradling. A graduate of Prosser High School, Stradling earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Washington College of Education before pursuing his PhD at the University of Nebraska. He began teaching Geography at Eastern in 1965. Much of his research while at Eastern focused on the geography of the Channeled Scablands, which were the result of a series of ice age floods. Much of Stradling's work related to the Scablands and the Ice Age Floods involved collaboration with geologists like Eugene Kiver, who also taught at Eastern Washington University (EWU). Research late in his career took him to Ghana in the 1990s. Stradling was awarded EWU's Trustees Medal in 1991 before retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1997. Dale Stradling died on July 3, 2008.
