The United Aircraft and Transport Corporation was established in 1929 in an endeavor to unite all aviation related activities—manufacturing, airline business, civil aviation, and military aviation—by William Boeing and Frederick Rentschler. When the company split up in 1934, the United Aircraft Corporation formed to manufacture American aircraft.
