Historical NoteReturn to Top
The Crones Counsel was incorporated in the state of Utah on October, 1995. Activities and use of the name began with the first meeting in October 1993. The purpose of this non-profit organization is to provide opportunities for women to join together in a variety of settings and activities in order to promote and affirm a sense of power, purpose, and productivity for themselves in the last third of their lives. It fosters networking opportunities and gatherings where women can share stories, discuss issues of concern, and to find connection and meaning in their later lives.
The major activitiy of the Crones Counsel are yearly gatherings open to all women regardless of age or experience, who are interested in achieving an empowered older age. The initial governing body was composed of seven members. They were Shauna Adix, Kaye Chatterton, Constance Clover-Byram, Peggy Gilbert, Ann Kreilkamp, Susan Mattos, and Colleen Taft.

Crone 2001 Grant Program for development of a regional Crone Gathering
This was a short-term program that experimented with giving agrant intented to provide incentive and startup funds for the development of a regional crone gathering. The history shows that the program was not effective because of lack of organizational funds to sustain it; and data that showed the local development did not, as planned, build the growth of the national organization.
2003 Proposal to Expand the Vision
Crones Councel applied for a grant to expose more people to the concept of crone; involve more women in Crone Councel activities; and offer experiences that enahnce women's self-concept and creativity and promote appreciation for older women's accomplishments and potential contricutions. The grant request of $10,000 from the Financial Exchange was not awarded.
