Historical Note

The Seattle Branch of the National League of American Pen Women, a society of professional women engaged in creative work in writing, music, and visual arts, was formed in 1923 and disbanded in 2009. Queena Davison Miller, who was a member for 42 years, was President of the Seattle Branch from 1944-1946; fourth National Vice-President, 1946-1948; State of Washington President, 1948-1950; and editor of The Whistling Swan for seventeen years.

Content Description

Historical and organizational documents, including membership records and rosters, guest books, scrapbooks, newsletters, correspondence, minutes, by-laws, speeches and writings, reports, clippings, financial records, yearbooks, poems, biographical files, reviews, and place cards designed by artists.

Scrapbooks contain clippings, ephemera, examples of writings and art work, and detailed biographical sketches of Seattle Branch members. The biographical sketches are usually accompanied by portraits.

Publications include copies of The Pen Woman for 1945-2010, issues of Whistling Swan for 1934-1995, and published writings by longtime officer Evelyn McLeod.
