Edgar Buckingham (1867-1940) was a physicist who worked for the USDA Bureau of Soils between 1902 and 1906 where he developed theories concerning soil physics. Prior to this work, Buckingham taught chemistry and physics first at Bryn Mawr College and then at the University of Wisconsin. In 1907, he accepted a position at the National Bureau of Standards.
